South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said on a Sunday news program that he has a “91 percent” chance of running for president in 2016.

The Seneca Republican plans to make decision on a White House bid in May.

Graham also thinks he will win in his home state if he runs despite a Winthrop University poll released last week that had the senator in fourth place in the S.C. primary. Another poll in February showed Graham winning the S.C. primary.

“If I didn’t think I could win South Carolina, I wouldn’t be talking to you,” according to a tweet on Fox News Sunday’s account posted during Graham’s appearance on the program. “If I’m on the ballot, I’ll win South Carolina.”

Earlier on the show, the senator mentioned that he had a 91 percent chance of entering the presidential race.

The senator has said his foreign-policy chops and about $15 million will make him competitive in the GOP’s early presidential primary states.

Graham, a defense hawk who serves in the Air Force Reserve, is courting military veterans and speaking before National Guard groups in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. He visited the New Hampshire National Guard on Friday.
