U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina’s GOP presidential hopeful, joked he would have a rotating first lady in the White House, according to the Daily Mail Online, a British tabloid that follows U.S. politics.

Asked who would be his first lady, Graham replied, “ ‘Well, I've got a sister – she could play that role if necessary,’ ” the article said.

Chuckling, Graham added: “ ‘I've got a lot of friends. We'll have a rotating first lady.’ ”

Graham’s campaign said the senator, who is a bachelor, was joking. The only lifelong bachelor to become president was James Buchanan. Grover Cleveland also was a bachelor when elected president but married while in office.

Graham, a Republican from Seneca, said he is running for president earlier this month. His candidacy is considered a long shot.
