Gov. Nikki Haley, USC coach Dawn Staley donate school supplies
Charities for Gov. Nikki Haley and University of South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley collected $56,000 in sneakers and school supplies to aid students in eight rural S.C. counties, organizers announced Wednesday.
Haley’s Original Six Foundation teamed with Staley’s Innersole to gather supplies donated at the state Department of Motor Vehicle offices. The governor and coach announced the tallies at Carver-Lyon Elementary School in Columbia.
The charities said they gathered:
▪ 550 pairs of shoes
▪ 6,241 pieces of school supplies
▪ $10,000 donation from Walmart for supplies
The sneakers will go to second graders. The supplies will go to 88 teachers in all grades at 26 schools.
