SC House’s longest-serving member to retire

The state’s longest-serving representative is retiring after 32 years in the S.C. House.

State Rep. Grady Brown, R-Lee, said Tuesday he will not seek another term. The 71-year-old Democrat has been in the House since 1985. The barber and businessman previously was on Lee County Council from 1973 through 1980.

His district spans parts of Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties.

Brown is among at least eight legislators not seeking another term in the General Assembly. At least two House members are expected to run for Senate seats being vacated.

All House and Senate seats are up for election this year. Candidates running for the seats must file with the state Election Commission between March 16 and March 30.

Primaries will be held June 14.
