Clinton, Trump eye Tuesday wins

After Tuesday’s primaries, the Bern could be a memory and Donald Trump either will — or won’t — be closer to the GOP presidential nominee.

The key?

Michigan

Having gone 2-2 Saturday, The Donald has a 18-percentage-point lead for Michigan’s 59 GOP delegates, according to Real Clear Politics.

Polls have U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who won two Saturday contests, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich battling it out for second, otherwise known, in TrumpLand, as first loser. Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who won in Puerto Rico on Sunday, is lagging badly in fourth.

On the Democratic side of the ledger, if U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders is to win any diverse state, Michigan would seem to be his best bet. But polls have Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton up by from 13-to-37 percentage points.

The question? If Sanders loses Michigan with its 147 delegates, what is his logic in going forward? Sure, he can press his issues and, maybe, speak at the convention, but the race is over.

Mississippi

The primaries in Mississippi — where 40 GOP convention delegates and 33 Democratic delegates are at stake — are less competitive, according to the polls. Trump leads by 24 percentage points and Clinton leads by 44.

Elsewhere:

▪ Republicans vote in Idaho, where Trump leads for its 32 delegates by 11, and caucus in Hawaii, where no polling has been done.

▪ Democrats who live overseas also vote.
