Funeral for Fred Sheheen set for Thursday

Funeral services for Fred Sheheen will be held at noon Thursday at Camden’s Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

The father of state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, D-Kershaw, died Monday in an auto accident.

Sheheen, former head of the state Commission on Higher Education, was remembered late Monday as an advocate for higher education and the arts. He was 79.

Father John Zimmerman will officiate at the services. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the family home.
