Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to visit Charlotte next week for VFW convention

Charlotte

Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will both be in Charlotte next week for the VFW National Convention.

Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, will speak at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention Monday, and Trump will address the group Tuesday, , according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

It will be Clinton’s second visit this month – and three days before she’ll accept the Democratic presidential nomination in Philadelphia.

The event is being held at the Charlotte Convention Center – the same venue where Clinton campaigned with President Barack Obama on July 5. It was their first joint appearance of the campaign.

At that event, Clinton called for policies popular among the Democratic base: paid family leave, a higher minimum wage, gun control and continuation of the Affordable Care Act.

Trump also will be in Winston-Salem Monday for a campaign stop.

Monday’s lineup for the VFW convention also includes the presentation of the VFW Armed Forces Award to the U.S. Army Special Forces and the VFW Hall of Fame Award to Rob Riggle.

Approximately 10,000 VFW and VFW Auxiliary members and guests are expected to attend.
