Clemson student killed in four-car crash riding with twin brother
A 21-year-old Clemson University student was killed Saturday while heading home with his twin brother for the holidays.
Alec Jonathan DeJong, 21, died from injuries he sustained in a four-car crash on Interstate 85 in Concord, N.C., according to the state highway patrol, The Independent Tribune reported.
The crash reportedly took place when a truck ran into the back of an SUV that had cut into the truck’s lane, the paper reported. The Volvo the brothers were traveling in crashed into the left corner of the truck. The Volvo then crashed into another car.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to Alec’s family and friends, including his twin brother, Brandon,” said Christopher Miller, associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students, according to The Greenville News.“The Clemson family stands with Brandon and the DeJong family during this difficult time.”
Brandon DeJong, Alec’s twin brother, was injured in the crash, but has already been released from the hospital, the Independent Tribune reported. The brothers were heading for home in Virginia.
Alec DeJong is from Charlottesville, Va., according to his online obituary. He was a senior at Clemson, where he was majoring in marketing and minoring in sports management. His goal was to work in sports or music communications, the obituary stated.
