4 law enforcement officers shot overnight during SC manhunt

A domestic call that became a manhunt resulted in four law enforcement officers being shot over night in York County.

Those injured include three York County deputies and one York city police officer. They were shot at two different locations during the manhunt.

Conditions for the injured were not released early Tuesday, but York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Farris implied the injuries were serious when he said the department “needed” prayers.

The suspect in the shooting has been identified by law enforcement as Christian Thomas McCall, 47,. He was shot during the pursuit. He is in custody and his condition was not released early Tuesday.

Farris said the shootings occurred as the result of a domestic call to a home at 3042 Farrier Lane, outside of the town of York, at 10:10 p.m. Monday.

Deputies arrived to find McCall had fled the scene. A search began with the help of dogs, he said.

The first officer to be shot was with the K-9 team, shortly after 1 a.m. That officer was rushed by vehicle to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment, said Farris.

The search for McCall then expanded to include other agencies and that’s when three additional officers were shot, Farris said. That happened not far from the home on Farrier Lane, at about 3:30 a.m.

Two of the officers were taken to Carolinas Medical Center by helicopter and the third was transported by vehicle, officials said.

A reverse 911 call was issued, warning residents of the area to stay in their homes, officials said.

McCall was later shot in the process of being taken into custody. He is a suspect in the domestic violence case, media outlets are reporting.

The York city police officer who was shot was part of the SWAT team investigating the case.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department assisted in the case, lending its helicopter to the search, officials reported.
