SC officer injured in shooting back to work, police say
One of the officers shot and injured Jan. 16 is back at work, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Kyle Cummings works for the York Police Department in the York County Multi-Jurisdictional Forensics Unit, based at the Moss Justice Center, the sheriff’s office said.
“It’s great,” York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris said. “It’s emotional and it’s wonderful to have him back.”
Cummings was one of four York County law enforcement officers shot by a domestic violence suspect. One of the four officers, sheriff’s Det. Mike Doty, died Jan. 17.
Cummings had surgery at Carolinas Medical Center and was released to recover at home Jan. 18.
Cummings, an Afghanistan combat veteran with the U.S. military, has been with the York police for three years after first serving with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
