The state government of South Carolina currently has over 1,100 open positions, with almost 60 with pay ranges of more than $100,000 annually.

That includes educators, lawyers, medical professionals and psychologists.

Sift through some of the state’s highest-paid positions available as of Thursday, May 15:

The current highest-paying state job is vice president for academic affairs at Spartanburg Community College. The listed salary range is between $180,000 and $225,000 a year.

The vice president is responsible for overseeing curriculum, instruction, student assessment and accreditation, according to the listing.

“The VP responds to emerging issues, trends, and community needs and is passionate about the community college mission,” the job post says.

According to the job listing, the requirements include a master’s degree and seven years of progressively responsible related work experience. A doctorate and a minimum of five years each of teaching and progressive academic leadership experience are preferred.

The Aeronautics Commission is seeking an executive director with a salary between $123,868 and $192,019 a year. The position is located in Richland County.

The job involves overseeing strategy, development programs, and flight operations and is the primary liaison with federal, state, and local aviation officials.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, aviation management, engineering, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible leadership experience, with three years in management in transportation planning and program development.

The State Treasurer’s Office is looking for an attorney at a salary range of $83,219 to $153,973 a year.

The job entails research in investment management, treasury services, banking, state debt issuances, unclaimed property matters, ABLE savings programs, and college savings “529” programs, as well as assisting with sourcing, procurement, contract negotiating, contract drafting and renewals, contract administration, RFPs, and all related matters.

A juris doctorate or its equivalent from an accredited law school and seven years of experience as a practicing attorney are required.

The Judicial Branch is looking for a deputy director of commission counsel/ receiver to facilitate closing law offices when a lawyer is incapacitated, missing, deceased, suspended, or disbarred.

The salary is $111,669 to $139,585 a year, according to the listing

The job entails handling files from the practice, notifying clients of the closure, and representing them in court.

A juris doctorate and eight years of experience in private practice are required.

The School for the Blind in Spartanburg County is looking for a principal at a salary between $86,870 and $129,959 a year.

The job requires a master’s degree, SC Licensure in Elementary/Secondary Principal Tier I or II, three years of teaching experience, preferably with blind/visually impaired students, and three years of educational leadership experience.

The Department of Corrections needs a physician assistant at Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia. The job pays $128,653 a year.

SCDC requires a master’s degree, progressive health care experience, and completion of a recognized physician’s assistant program with clinical experience.

The Department of Juvenile Justice needs a psychologist at its Midlands Community Division. The salary range is $68,397 to $126,547 a year.

Psychological services are primarily evaluation and consultation, including testing. The job entails testifying in Family Court when necessary.

The job requires a doctorate in applied psychology and experience in the practice of applied psychology.
