Man dies in Clarendon County car crash

A single-car accident resulted in the death of a Manning man, the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office said Sunday.

Matthew David, 26, died of multiple blunt-force trauma when he was ejected in a crash, Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock said.

The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Lance Corporal Hannah Wimberly said David was one of three people in a 2006 Cadillac that was traveling north on Plowden Mill Rd. near Alcolu when it went off the road just before 2 p.m. Wimberly said the Cadillac struck a culvert and overturned several times.

David wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the back seat of the Cadillac during the accident, Wimberly said. According to Mock, David was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver, identified as male by Mock, was flown to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. A female, who was in the passenger seat, was seen walking around the scene of the accident by Mock, who said she was taken to Clarendon Memorial Hospital. There were no updates on their conditions.

Wimberly said charges are pending further investigation.
