Father of bride in hospital wedding dies
Jubal Kirby, the father of the bride who got married at his hospital bedside last Wednesday, died Saturday, according to a Carolinas Medical Center spokeswoman.
Kirby, 49, of Anson County, had been hospitalized for several weeks with a rapidly progressing form of lung fibrosis. An employee of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, Kirby had suffered a stroke this summer, but family members said he was recovering when he was diagnosed in recent weeks with the lung disease.
His daughter, Kaila Kirby, 20, and her fiancé, Daniel Pardue, had planned to get married next July, but they moved up the ceremony so her father could be present. They exchanged vows and rings at noon Wednesday at Kirby’s bedside in CMC’s medical intensive care unit.
