One woman is dead and another is behind bars after running her over following an argument, the High Point Police Department said.

Natavia Currie died Saturday from injuries she suffered after being hit by a car driven by Lavoya McClain, WFMY reported.

Officers responding to the accident at about 2:30 a.m. found the 23-year-old High Point woman, who was four months pregnant when she died, according to WGHP.

Witnesses said Currie and McClain were arguing when it escalated and the 24-year-old “intentionally hit” the pregnant woman with the vehicle before driving away, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.

Although she left the scene, McClain turned herself in to police “a few hours later,” per WGHP.

McClain is being held at the Guilford County Jail, where she was charged with first-degree murder and felony hit-and-run, jail records show. No bond has been set, and the High Point resident remains behind bars, according to jail records.
