School bus flips over near Charlotte after truck driver runs stop sign, NC cops say
Multiple people were injured when a North Carolina school bus was involved in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday, officials said.
The bus ended up overturned on its side following a wreck that occurred around 2:30 p.m., WJZY reported.
The bus was a Head Start school vehicle, but is not part of the Stanly County Schools fleet, according to WSOC.
North Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred when a pickup truck ran through a stop sign and collided with the bus, WBTV reported.
A Toyota Scion behind the bus was also involved in the wreck, and its driver was “seriously injured” and airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, per WSOC.
Troopers said there were 15 students and two adults on the bus at the time of the crash, according to WJZY. Officials said their injuries were “non-life-threatening,” WCNC reported.
“All involved in the accident are doing well,” Stanly County Schools said on its website. “Please keep those children and family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Stanly County EMS said the crash occurred on Quail Ridge Road near Highway 52, per Spectrum News.
The truck driver is expected to face criminal charges, WSOC reported.
