Children ages 2 and 10 among victims of triple homicide, North Carolina police say
Three people, including a 2-year-old, were killed in act of domestic violence on New Year’s Day, North Carolina officials say.
Two children and an adult were found with fatal gunshot wounds inside a Greensboro home on Wednesday, according to the city’s police department.
A relative had called officers to the residential area to check someone’s well-being, police spokesperson Ronald Glenn told McClatchy News via email.
That’s when officers found the three people who had been shot, Glenn said.
Investigators later opened a homicide investigation, according to a news release.
The deceased victims were identified as Greensboro residents Jerry Griffin, 61, Mkenzie Denise McKinney, 10, and Serenity Taliem Rose, 2, according to officers.
Police have made an arrest in the case.
Britany Christina McKinney, 29, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths, police say. She was being held Thursday with no bond allowed, according to Guilford County jail records.
“The suspect did have a relationship with all three victims,” Glenn wrote. “We are not releasing the nature of their relationships at this time, but this would be considered a domestic related homicide.”
About 30 minutes after police responded to the homicide scene, they went to a crash involving Britany McKinney, the Greensboro Police Department said in a report. She was driving Griffin’s car when she hit a utility pole and another car, the accident report said.
Police say they took her into custody nearby.
McKinney was scheduled to be in court Thursday afternoon, WFMY reports.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Greensboro cops.
