NC lottery winner thought he was out of ‘good luck.’ Then came another jackpot prize
A North Carolina man thought he had run out of “good luck” — until he won a second jackpot prize.
”Winning a second time feels amazing,” Richard Moreau said Tuesday in a news release from the N.C. Education Lottery. “It’s a good start to the New Year.”
The Orange County engineer’s lucky streak started in 2017, according to the news release.
After he won $70,539 in the Cash 5 game, Moreau “thought he had used up all his good luck,” lottery officials posted on Twitter.
But recently, he decided to buy a ticket at Quickie Mart in Hillsborough, a town northwest of Chapel Hill, officials say.
“I always use my own numbers,” Moreau said, according to the lottery’s news release. “I had some numbers that were eating at me all day so I put them down.”
It was 1:30 a.m. when Moreau’s wife yelled out that his latest Cash 5 ticket was a winner, according to the news release.
He was in disbelief, but it turned out not to be a rude awakening, officials say.
“I had to look at it three different times before it sunk in,” he said of the ticket worth $233,415, according to N.C. Education Lottery.
Officials say Moreau took home $165,141 and hopes to spend some of the money on bills.
“I take whatever luck I can get,” Moreau said in the news release. “There’s so much bad that happens out there, that you’ve got to take the good when it comes.”
