Woman was found dead behind a church in 2012, NC cops say. Police just made an arrest

More than seven years after a woman was found dead behind a North Carolina church, police have made an arrest.

Paula Joy Nicks, 33, was found dead behind a church in Greensboro in May 2012, according to a release from the Greensboro Police Department.

Investigators then determined she died of blunt force trauma and ruled her death a murder, police say.

Now, police have made an arrest for her death more than seven years later.

Detectives recently got new information that allowed them to arrest Jack Leon Coker Jr., 27, on Tuesday and charge him with first-degree murder, police say.

He was arrested after he was released from the North Carolina Department of Corrections, police say. He was there serving a sentence for second-degree rape, which happened in the Kinston area.

He was taken to the Guilford County Jail and was not given bond, the release says.

Anyone with information about the alleged murder or Coker is asked to call 336-574-4004 or Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000, the release says.
