Lottery player’s favorite number helps him win big prize in North Carolina

Buying a lottery ticket because he likes the number 7 paid off big time for a North Carolina man.

Tony Addison Jr. stopped at a convenience store in Whiteville on Tuesday and bought a Blazing 7’s scratch-off ticket for $5, according to a release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

He told lottery officials he bought it because he likes the number 7.

“I like sevens,” he said, according to the lottery. “They’re lucky.”

He took the ticket back to the car and scratched it, the release says. When he saw he had won $200,000, he and his mom “kept passing the ticket back and forth in disbelief.”

“Just shock,” Addison told lottery officials. “Couldn’t believe it.”

Addison claimed his prize Wednesday and took home $141,501 after taxes, according to the release.

He told lottery officials he plans to use the money to pay some bills for his mom, but hopes to invest and save the rest.

The ticket launched in July with six $200,000 prizes, according to the lottery. After Addison’s win, only one of the top prizes remains to be won.
