Charlotte announces the name of its MLS expansion team. People yawn

After some social media hype, the official name for Charlotte’s new Major League Soccer team was announced on Wednesday ... and fans are falling asleep with their eyes open at the sight of the name.

Charlotte FC.

No, seriously ... that’s it.

A lot of soccer fans on Twitter who were eagerly awaiting the team’s announcement could be heard yawning and voiced their displeasure.

Nevertheless, people are still excited.

It was announced in December 2019 that Charlotte was named as the home of the 30th MLS team. Charlotte FC will start in 2022, ESPN announced.

The four primary colors are Carolina blue, black, silver and white. The crest is a crown in honor of Charlotte being the original Queen City, which was named in honor of Queen Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of Britain’s King George III, MLS Soccer reported.

Charlotte FC President Tom Glick spoke to The Charlotte Observer and said that the name was decided “a number of weeks ago” after consulting with thousands of soccer fans in the Carolinas. Charlotte FC was the “clear leader in the house,” Glick said.
