Trucker didn’t think he won NC jackpot — and got out his glasses to check ticket again

A North Carolina man didn’t believe he hit the jackpot — and grabbed his glasses to check his ticket again.

“It didn’t seem real,” Roderick Pryor told the N.C. Education Lottery. “I said that I wasn’t going to believe it until I actually put the check in my hand.”

It turns out his ticket was the real deal, scoring him a $100,000 prize, officials said Monday in a news release.

Pryor was giving his wife a ride when he stopped at Grab N Go in Battleboro, roughly 65 miles northeast of Raleigh. At the convenience store, officials said he tried his luck on a $25 ticket in the new Spectacular Riches game.

He put the ticket in a safe before collecting the game’s first 100,000 prize. Pryor, a truck driver who lives in Nash County, kept $70,757 after taxes, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.

Now, he plans to put the money toward his house and help his wife.

“I’m going to pay my home off and I’m going to pay her car off,” Pryor told lottery officials. “Those are two extra bills I won’t have to worry about.”

It’s not the first time someone has found it difficult to grasp a big North Carolina lottery win.

In July, officials said relatives were in disbelief after discovering their scratch-off ticket was worth $2 million.

And more recently, the wife of a retired Coast Guardsman couldn’t believe her husband had scored a $1 million prize, McClatchy News reported.
