Family can now buy dream home after dad stops for NC lottery ticket after night shift

A North Carolina man had to look twice at his scratch ticket after he finished his night shift in a tired daze.

Tayron Sparks, from Knightdale, a city about 10 miles east of Raleigh, thought he was going crazy after he saw the $1 million prize on the $10 scratch ticket he had just bought, lottery officials said.

“I still haven’t been able to sleep,” Sparks said according to a March 23 news release, “but it’s okay because I just won a million dollars.”

As soon as Sparks realized he had won the jackpot, he called his wife to share the news.

“I told her, ‘We got it. We got a million dollars,’” Sparks said. “She’s as happy as ever.”

Sparks said he and his wife can now finally buy their dream home for them and their three kids.

On March 22, he collected his prize money — $426,063 after taxes, lottery officials said.
