‘Mind boggling.’ Another lottery win — his biggest one yet — leaves NC man speechless
A North Carolina man scored another lottery prize — and it was his biggest one yet.
Gregg Hensley, 63, was speechless when he found out his latest winning ticket was worth $200,000, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.
“I had to hold on to something I was so stunned,” he said in an April 19 news release.
Hensley — a woodworker from McDowell County — has a history of good luck.
Two years ago, he won a $20,000 prize. And earlier in 2022, he scored another $10,000, the lottery said.
This time around, officials said Hensley hit the jackpot after entering his Multiply the Cash game tickets in the April 11 second-chance drawing. His entry was chosen from a pool of more than 66.9 million.
When Hensley discovered he had won, he became “so overcome with emotion that he couldn’t speak,” officials said. So, instead of telling his wife about his prize, he needed to give up his phone so she could see it for herself.
“With as many folks who are entering drawings, to actually win one is hard to comprehend,” Hensley told the N.C. Education Lottery. “So to actually win three, it’s mind boggling.”
Hensley lives in Marion, roughly 35 miles east of the mountain tourist town of Asheville. For the most recent prize, he kept $142,020 after taxes.
“He would like to buy a new truck and do some home repairs,” the lottery said in its news release.
Hensley isn’t the only North Carolina lottery player with multiple major wins under his belt.
In March 2021, officials said a man won $1 million less than a year after splitting an even bigger prize.
