Man has family pick his lottery numbers — and wins big North Carolina Powerball prize
A man who played Powerball turned $3 into a six-figure jackpot with the help of his family, North Carolina lottery officials said.
Trevor Stewart, 56, bought a $3 Power Play ticket via the lottery website and played the numbers he says he has always played.
“I asked family members to choose the numbers and that’s what I play,” he told lottery officials. “Been playing them for years.”
Stewart’s winning ticket tripled from $50,000 to $150,00 in the Wednesday, Sept. 14, Powerball drawing after hitting the 3X Power Play multiplier.
“I was pretty excited, I had to call my wife to let her know,” Stewart said.
The Fayetteville man took home $106,516 after taxes. He told lottery officials he plans to use some of it for bills and put the rest of the winnings in the bank.
Fayetteville is about 65 miles south of Raleigh.
