A grocery worker won a six-figure lottery prize, and a North Carolina cashier couldn’t contain himself.

“He started jumping up and down and gave me a big hug,” winner Bernadad Cumbie said in a Feb. 14 news release.

The lucky win means the Greensboro mom can help her son pursue a dream of going to law school, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.

“I was so happy that I could call my son and tell him I won $400,000,” she told lottery officials.

Cumbie’s good fortune came after she stopped at a Quick Mart store in Greensboro. While at the business on Randleman Road, officials said she spent $5 on a scratch-off ticket for the $35,000,000 Blowout game.

“I just kept seeing all these winners in North Carolina and kept believing that could be me,” Cumbie said in the news release.

It turns out, her ticket won the Blowout game’s last top prize of $400,000. That’s when she said she turned to the Quick Mart cashier and told him about her jackpot win.

Cumbie, who works at a supermarket, kept $285,001 after taxes. In addition to paying for her son’s education, she hopes to put the prize money toward bills, officials said.
