Wrecks on South Carolina roads kill 7 during Labor Day weekend
South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were four road deaths reported during the Labor Day weekend.
Officials said all of the deaths occurred on U.S. routes, S.C. roads and secondary roads.
In three of the deaths, officials said a seat belt was not used. One person killed was a pedestrian, two others were unhelmeted motorcyclists and another was an unhelmeted moped driver.
As of Monday, 653 people have died on state highways, compared to 649 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015. Of the 420 motor-vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 200 were not wearing seat belts.
Ninety-two pedestrians have been killed compared to 77 during the same time period in 2015. Ninety-seven motorcyclists have been killed compared to 98 this time in 2015. Sixteen bicyclists have died in 2016 compared to 12 this time last year.
