'Green' packaging maker could bring 115 jobs to Chester County

A company that makes sustainable materials and packaging will spend $15 million to build a manufacturing facility in northern Chester County, state officials said Wednesday, creating up to 115 jobs over the next five years.

Arizona-based Footprint LLC will lease a 109,000-square-foot building in the L&C Distribution Park in Richburg, officials said. The company will make and deliver sustainable packaging materials for the its East Coast and Canadian customers.

Hiring is expected to start this summer and continue through 2016. To apply, send a resume to jobs@footprintus.com.

“Footprint is a great addition to the Chester County manufacturing sector,” said Brian Singleton, chairman of the Chester Development Association. “We get a technology-focused company that is investing over $15 million in an existing industrial building and bringing 115 more jobs to the area.”

Footprint CEO Troy Swope said Chester County provides a “unique geographic and technical advantage.”

“When looking at the available workforce and our next generation of sustainable materials and manufacturing technologies,” he said, “South Carolina became the clear choice for our new state-of-the-art facility.”

Footprint was founded by Swope and Yoke Chung, two former employees of the Intel Corp. The company says it provides economical and environmentally friendly packaging to its customers. It currently operates facilities in the United States, Mexico and China.

Among the industries that Footprint serves are consumer goods, food and beverage, produce and horticulture and product manufacturing.

The state Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.
