Columbia man picks up check at McDonald’s after winning $1 million

COLUMBIA, S.C. A Columbia man who won $1 million from the state lottery decided to treat his coworkers to fast food after hearing the good news.

The man, who lottery officials did not name, won $1 million this week.

He told lottery officials earlier this week he plans to buy burgers and shakes at McDonald’s for his coworkers.

He plans to save his winnings so he can retire and travel more, according to a news release from the S.C. Education Lottery

“I’m debt free now,” the millionaire said to lottery officials.

The winner’s wife was notified via email about the winnings.

“She told me we won $100,000,” he said. “I read the email and told her, ‘You’d better count the zeros again.’”

The man entered a non-winning ticket to the Lottery’s Players’ Club. His ticket was selected from more than 627,000 entries in the Black ice Millions Second-Chance Promotion.
