SC man charged after his wife was severely burned on 50 percent of her body, deputies say
A South Carolina man was arrested after he allegedly gave his wife severe burns across half of her body, according to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office statement.
Craig Lewis was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder, high and aggravated domestic violence and resisting arrest with officer injury after his wife had to be flown to the Atlanta Medical Center to be treated for her injuries, according to the statement.
Though details were sparse, deputies found evidence showing that the burning incident was not accidental, according to the statement.
The woman is currently suffering severe burns on 50 percent of her body after the Thursday afternoon incident and was scheduled for emergency surgery Friday morning, according to the statement. Her daughter spoke to deputies and said she was stable but still critical.
According to a Tweet from WCSC reporter Harve Jacobs, Lewis told authorities that his wife burned herself attempting to light a wood burning stove.
“We ask the residents of Colleton County to come together and continue to pray for her to have strength in such a time of transgression,” Sheriff R.A. Strickland said in the statement.
