SC daycare worker arrested after allegedly slapping 1-year-old in face

A South Carolina daycare worker arrested on charges related to abuse after police say she hit a 1-year-old child in the face, according to a statement from the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Markita Nicole Rainey, 31, of Aiken, was charged with five counts of unlawful conduct towards a child after police reviewed video of the alleged abuse at a child care facility on Summerwood Way, according to the statement.

Monday, staff at the day care facility saw Rainey’s allegedly abuse and gave video of it to officers, according to the statement. The video showed Rainey allegedly hitting a child in the face and picking up other children and throwing them onto mats.

Rainey also allegedly pushed another 1-year-old child on the floor when he was standing in her way, according to the statement.

Staff at the day care asked Rainey to leave after they saw the video, according to the statement.

Rainey was later arrested and taken to the Aiken County Detention Center.
