Man sexually assaulted woman for hours in front of her baby, South Carolina police say
A man sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman in front of her baby for two hours in a Greenville, South Carolina, apartment, police say.
The woman did not know her attacker, who police identified as Uriel Romero-Gonzalez, 24, according to arrest warrants. The assault happened in the early morning Monday, police said.
He got into the apartment through an unlocked door as the woman slept and threatened the mother and her infant with a knife, the Greenville Police Department said.
“During the assault, the suspect concealed his face with a mask and covered his hands with what are described as plastic sandwich bags,” police said in a press release.
When he left, he took the woman’s purse, phone and keys, but did not realize he forgot his phone, police said. Investigators were able to track Romero-Gonzalez down with the phone and he admitted to being in the area, police said.
The suspect is currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, police said, but the department did not detail his immigration status.
He faces charges for criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police said.
