Mom charged in 2-year-old son’s death released on bond, South Carolina judge rules

A South Carolina mom charged with the death of her 2-year-old son was granted bond, media outlets report.

Okedia Colvin, 33, of Dillon was charged in November with homicide by child abuse after police say she didn’t seek medical attention for her 2-year-old when his feeding tube malfunctioned, according to WMBF.

Warrants also say Colvin showed “extreme indifference to human life” and didn’t properly feed or care for the child, WBTW reported.

But her family told WBTW in November that Colvin would “never do anything to hurt her kids.”

Colvin was released on bond Monday morning after a judge determined she isn’t a “danger to the community” or a “flight risk,” according to WPDE.

She also doesn’t have a past criminal record or custody of her other children, according to WMBF.

Her trial date hasn’t been set, according to WPDE.
