Ready to toss your Christmas tree? It can be a feast for these South Carolina goats
You may want to think twice before getting rid of your Christmas tree this year.
That’s because they can be tasty treats for goats, a South Carolina farm posted on Facebook.
Video shows one of the animals munching on prickly needles at the nonprofit Growing Minds’s Educational Farm in Mount Pleasant, according to another Facebook post.
Apparently, furry residents Willy, Billy and Tina think the old holiday decorations are “delicious.”
Some of the Nigerian dwarf goats were even spotted trailing Christmas trees as they were carried around the farm, a photo shows.
If you have a tree that’s ready to be tossed, the farm says it’s accepting donations through Monday afternoon.
People can drop off their Christmas decorations from 2 to 5 p.m. on the nonprofit’s land, roughly 15 miles northeast of Charleston.
Farm owner Katie Donohoe calls it a “win-win” that allows her to reuse materials that would otherwise be thrown out, according to WCBD.
It’s not the first time goats enjoyed recycled tree snacks.
Animals in Michigan and New Jersey are among those that have feasted on Christmas tree branches, the Detroit Free Press and the Associated Press reported last holiday season.
Goats are grazers that eat “shrubs, woody plants, weeds” and other plants, according to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute.
