Trump campaign expects president at Clemson v. LSU football championship

President Donald Trump is expected to attend the College Football National Championship game on Jan. 13 between the LSU Tigers and Clemson Tigers, WDSU reported.

“Trump’s trip to New Orleans, if it happens, would be his seventh trip to Louisiana since taking office in January 2017, including three visits during the 2019 gubernatorial race,” The Advocate reported.

Trump’s plan could be altered, “if tensions escalate with Iran following the American airstrike in Baghdad this week that killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani,” according to The Advocate.

The president is no stranger to visiting sporting events as he attended the Nov. 9 matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU, while also attending “Game 5 of the World Series between the Nationals and Astros,” Sports Illustrated reported.

Brian Trascher, a Trump campaign official, “confirmed President Trump’s expected visit Monday, Jan. 13” and said “members of the congressional delegation will join the President at the game,” WDSU reported.

“Kickoff for this year’s national championship is set for 8 p.m. ET at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans,” SI noted.
