A person was killed Thursday morning after being hit by an Amtrak train outside of Charleston, South Carolina, according to multiple reports.

Hanahan Police Chief Dennis Turner said one person died in the crash that happened just after 10 a.m., WCBD reports.

In a message on Twitter at about 10:30 a.m., Amtrak said, “Palmetto Train 90 is currently stopped north of Charleston (CHS) due to a trespasser incident. We will update as additional information becomes available.”

An Amtrak employee said the train was traveling from Savannah when it hit the pedestrian, according to WCSC.

The Palmetto line is part of Amtrak’s service from Miami to New York.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office will identify the pedestrian killed in the crash, WCIV reports.
