Porch pirate doesn’t get far after homeowner opens the door with a gun, SC cops say
A man is accused of trying to steal a package sitting in front of someone’s front door — but he chose the wrong house, a South Carolina sheriff’s office said.
When the alleged package thief got his loot to the car, the homeowner came out with a gun and held the man until deputies could come to arrest him, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies say Marvin Marshall stole the package in Moncks Corner. He’s been charged with petty larceny.
The sheriff’s office said on Facebook, “Marshall advised deputies he was driving around looking for lawns to cut when his car began to have trouble. Marshall pulled over and began to see what was wrong with his car.”
“While checking on his car, Marshall noticed a package by someone else’s front door that enticed him. Marshall decided to knock on the front door.... there was no answer. At that moment Marshall thought it would be a genius idea to take the package and put it into his car,” the sheriff’s office said.
The homeowner was actually home and “came outside with his firearm and ordered Marshall to give the package back,” according to deputies.
The suspect brought the package back to the home and was held at gunpoint until police showed up to arrest him.
