Murder suspect in 2012 Detroit cold case arrested in South Carolina, US marshals say
Two people were shot and one was burned in a car fire in Detroit seven years ago, the U.S. Marshals Service said. Now it has arrested a woman in South Carolina charged in the crimes.
Agents arrested Lauren Ratliff in Anderson, a news release said.
“On Sept. 19, 2012, the Detroit Police Department found Tamika Brooks deceased inside of a burning car,” the Marshals Service said. Brooks and another person, Julian Bogan, had both been shot before the car was set alight.
Someone doused the car in gasoline and set it on fire, WDIV reports. Brooks had to be identified through dental records, her family told the Detroit station last year.
Bogan survived the shooting, according to the release.
Prosecutors last week charged Ratliff with murder, assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, and two counts of unlawful imprisonment in connection with the 2012 case.
“Fugitives fleeing from justice from other parts of the country should not mistake South Carolina’s hospitality as an invitation to visit the state. We will always utilize every available resource to locate and apprehend wanted subjects so they can face justice in the appropriate jurisdiction,” U.S. Marshal for the District of South Carolina Thomas Griffin said in the release.
