18-year-old woman arrested for vandalizing mosque in South Carolina, police say
A tip led investigators to arrest an 18-year-old woman for vandalizing the Islamic Center of Charleston, police said.
Hailey Elizabeth Riddle is charged with malicious injury to a place of worship. She was arrested Thursday morning, jail records show.
Police say Riddle was involved in spray painting the words “utterly blessed” on the side of the Islamic Center of Charleston on Jan. 30.
Investigators in Charleston shared surveillance video on Feb. 3 that showed three people suspected in the case and a car, asking the public for help finding the alleged culprits. A woman in one of the photos appears to be carrying a can of spray paint.
Police said a tip to the Crime Stoppers line helped lead to the arrest, but the investigation continues.
Riddle is scheduled to have a bond hearing Thursday afternoon.
