SC restaurants nominated for James Beard Awards. No, they’re not all in Charleston
South Carolina restaurants made the list of semifinalists for the Oscars of the food world, the James Beard Awards.
One restaurant in the state got the nod for Best New Restaurant: Greenville’s new farm to table restaurant Oak Hill Cafe.
The cafe posted to Facebook soon after the nominations were announced, “We are humbled by this nomination and very grateful to our top notch team and community support. Thank you GREENVILLE!”
Oak Hill Cafe describes itself as “a unique combination of restaurant, farm and market all in 2.4 acres located just north of downtown Greenville.”
The chef for another upstate restaurant, Adam Cooke of Topsoil Kitchen & Market, was nominated for Best Chef in the Southeast. Topsoil is in Travelers Rest, about 10 miles north of Greenville.
South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers congratulated the nominees Wednesday. “The two Upstate restaurants and six Charleston businesses on this list share a common thread: agriculture,” he said in a statement.
