Powerful storms flip over planes in South Carolina, photos show

Planes flipped upside down as strong storms pushed through South Carolina on Monday, officials say.

Dramatic photos show several small aircraft with their wheels up in the air, according to a Facebook post from the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office. The county is in the Lowcountry, mostly west of Charleston.

A tornado likely caused trees and power lines to fall in the area near Walterboro, according to the National Weather Service.

Crews as of Monday morning were working to clear debris that littered roadways, according to deputies.

At Lowcountry Regional Airport, a mangled fence rested near a battered plane, and a section of roof was lifted from a hangar, according to pictures shared with WCSC.
