Driver backing up truck kills 17-month-old boy in parking lot, SC cops say

A toddler has died after being run over by a truck at a north Charleston apartment complex Monday night, outlets are reporting.

A driver was backing up at an apartment complex at 7562 Plantation Road around 7:45 p.m. and struck the 17-month-old boy, according to WCIV.

Javi A. Moran-Giron was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina’s Pediatric Emergency Department, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the Charleston County Coroner’s Office told WCIV.

The driver flagged down a police officer near where Remound Road meets the I-26 off ramp at 7:59 p.m., roughly 15 minutes after the incident, according to WCSC. In the truck were the driver, an adult passenger, and the child.

North Charleston Police are continuing to investigate, WCBD reported.
