Boat explosion injures deputy, at least 3 others at South Carolina resort, officials say
A deputy and three other people were hurt when a boat exploded in South Carolina, officials say.
The vessel caught fire Sunday night at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina in Mount Pleasant, WCBD reported.
The explosion reportedly happened after fuel was put into a boat, Mike Mixon Jr., Mount Pleasant fire chief, told McClatchy News in an email. Four people were “transported for treatment and evaluation,” he wrote.
A Florence County deputy dislocated his shoulder during the incident, WPDE reported. Two other people were burned, chief deputy Glen Kirby told WBTW.
Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina is in the Charleston area and has a beach, pools and docks that can fit “more than 450 boats of up to 200 feet,” according to its website.
Florence County, where the injured deputy is from, is roughly 100 miles north of Charleston. A call to a Florence County representative went unanswered on Monday morning.
