Ex-worker shoots out windows at restaurant on Charleston’s main drag, SC cops say
A 24-year-old is accused of endangering the lives of several people Sunday after he fired a gun into a restaurant where he used to work on one of Charleston’s busiest streets, police in South Carolina said.
John Carmichael Godfrey II was charged with six counts of assault and battery in the first degree after surrendering to the Charleston Police Department on Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release.
Godfrey is accused of shooting into the windows of CO Noodle Restaurant — a Vietnamese restaurant on King Street in the heart of the city’s tourist district. The restaurant is described on Google as a “sophisticated, industrial-chic eatery serving modern takes on classic Vietnamese dishes.”
Police were called shortly after it opened at 11 a.m. Sunday, according to the release.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired around 11:20, police said. They were then “flagged down” by witnesses who said “a subject in a vehicle fired multiple shots at the restaurant’s front glass and then sped away,” WCBD reported.
Several employees were inside at the time but nobody was injured, police said.
CO Noodle shared a photo of the damage on Facebook showing at least three bullet holes in the front glass.
“Most importantly, no one was hurt,” the post from Sunday states. “We will be closed today but hope to safely reopen soon and continue to serve our beloved Charleston community.”
Godfrey was scheduled for a bond hearing at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
