Remains found in SC woods identified as ‘extremely intelligent’ fugitive, officials say

Human remains found in South Carolina last week were identified as a fugitive wanted for murder, officials say.

The remains were found on July 28 in a wooded area off Huckleberry Ridge near Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville, The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said, according to the Greenville News.

On Monday, the coroner’s office identified the remains as 49-year-old Ryan Dusha Kedar, who was accused of killing 58-year-old Mark Jermon in February, WSPA reports. Officials say Kedar had been dead for months when his remains were found.

Police told FOX Carolina that a gun was found near his remains and that forensic evidence is being reviewed to determine if it was the gun used in the February shooting.

Jermon was found shot to death on the soccer fields at Herdklotz Park on Feb. 26, McClatchy News reported.

The motive for the shooting was unclear but officials believed Jermon and Kedar were “familiar with each other.”

Federal officials in May said that Kedar, described as an “extremely intelligent” fugitive and “avid outdoorsman,” could have been hiding in the mountains in North or South Carolina, McClatchy News previously reported.

Kedar’s car was found on the side of the road near Paris Mountain State Park a few days after the murder, but more than 100 officers were unable to find him when they searched the park, the U.S Marshals service said.

Officials were offering a $7,000 reward for information on Kedar.

The cause of Kedar’s death is under investigation, the Greenville News reports.
