Here’s where 5 tornadoes hit in South Carolina as Hurricane Sally raged, NWS says

While officials are still surveying the damage from Thursday’s storms, the National Weather Service has confirmed that at least five tornadoes touched down in South Carolina as Hurricane Sally passed over.

An EF-1 tornado, with winds between 86-110 mph, bore down on Dorchester County, near Reevesville, uprooting trees and causing minor damage to structures, according to the NWS office in Charleston.

Sally unleashed four more tornadoes of roughly equal strength on the Midlands, according to NWS in Columbia.

Calhoun County saw two twisters, one near St. Matthews, the other out in the “far eastern” part of the county.

Another touched down in southeast Orangeburg County nearby Interstate 95.

Clarendon County claims the fifth tornado, which was spinning close to Santee.

The “brief” tornadoes all likely ranged from EF-0 to EF-1 at the greatest.

Sally’s wind and rain caused seven flash flood warnings and 11 tornado warnings in the Midlands, NWS Columbia reported.

The NWS is still tallying up the damage and looking into other possible tornadoes.
