If you’re searching for a spot to have your next date night, one South Carolina restaurant may be your best bet.

That’s because Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte — a bistro on Hilton Head Island — is ranked among the most romantic places to eat in the nation, according to a new list from OpenTable.

To come up with the findings, the restaurant reservation website studied more than 12 million reviews that verified users shared online. The results include eateries that offer “world-class cuisine, attentive (but never intrusive) service, and a unique ambiance,” officials said in a blog post last week, just ahead of Valentine’s Day.

“America’s 100 Most Romantic Restaurants 2022 showcases those spots that make it easy for diners to connect and create amazing memories,” OpenTable said.

Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte — which has a name that means “green star” in French — was the lone restaurant in South Carolina to receive national recognition. It’s also not the first time Charlie’s was honored.

Last month, updated OpenTable rankings showed the restaurant was among the top places to have a meal in the United States. The website said it made that list after considering reviews that millions of people left in 2021, McClatchy News reported.

So, what makes Charlie’s so special?

On its OpenTable page, some users are big fans of the restaurant’s customer service and atmosphere. Several also can’t get enough of the oysters and other seafood dishes, helping the business score 4.9 out of 5 stars.

“Charlie’s is the place for good food, good wine and unforgettable memories all enjoyed in a quaint French country atmosphere,” the restaurant said on its website.

While the bistro focuses on serving local seafood, duck breast and other French-inspired fare has also made it onto the menu. The restaurant was founded about 40 years ago and has become a fixture in the tourist destination, The Island Packet reported.

“The restaurant has grown over the years, but the ‘Green Star’ remains steadfast in offering the finest ingredients the Low country has to offer with a menu that is hand written daily,” officials said on the bistro’s OpenTable page.

Also in the Carolinas, restaurants in Charlotte and Winston-Salem were named among the most romantic on OpenTable’s national list. The qualities that were considered for each business included overall ratings, the volume of customer reviews — and of course, the “romance factor,” CharlotteFive reported.
