A 26-year-old man was found dead after his “out of character” disappearance in South Carolina, officials said.

Christopher Quentin Jackson was a caregiver for his mother before family members lost contact with him on Saturday, April 23. He was last seen behind the wheel of a silver Buick, according to the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.

Nearly a week after Jackson vanished, deputies said his body was discovered in Shoe Heel Creek. The creek is off Bakers Mill Road, which is near the North Carolina border and roughly 75 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach.

“The body is being sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” officials wrote April 30 in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s death was “being treated as suspicious,” the Dillon County Coroner’s Office told WMBF and WBTW.

At the time that the 26-year-old went missing, officials said the situation was “extremely out of character.” The sheriff’s office had been seeking clues as it searched for Jackson and his Buick, which reportedly was found in the Oakland Road area on April 28.

Now, deputies ask anyone with information to call them at 843-774-1432, dispatchers at 843-841-3707 or Crime Stoppers at 888-274-6372. People can also contact the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office through its Facebook page.

The coroner’s office didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for additional information on May 2.
