If you’re considering entering fields like motion pictures, sound recording or the performing arts, South Carolina should likely be on your radar.

The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce has released its job growth projections for the next decade, which includes the 10 industries expected to see the most growth.

Overall, state employment growth will be 12% or a gain of 263,000 new jobs through 2030, the report projects. It is also predicted that there will be 287,000 job openings annually during the decade due to employment growth and job turnover.

The motion picture and sound recording industries took the top spot for projected fastest growth, with a predicted 2,217 jobs in 2030 — an 85.5% increase over the 1,195 jobs reported in 2020.

Other industries in the top five include performing arts, museums and hotels.

“Unsurprisingly, many of the industries expected to see the most employment growth from 2020 levels are those that were hardest hit by the pandemic: theaters, museums, hotels, and the like,” Bryan Grady, Labor Market Information director at the Department of Employment and Workforce, said in a Friday press release. “Across occupations, health care jobs tend to be among those growing the fastest overall, but it is the less specialized service occupations — cashiers, laborers, cooks, and others that were seen as ‘frontline workers’ during the worst of the pandemic — which will continue to have the largest numbers of job openings to fill.”

LMI produces these projections every other year under the direction of the Employment and Training Administration within the U.S. Department of Labor.

“These employment projections are another tool produced by our LMI Division that can help businesses and workers better understand our turbulent job market,” Dan Ellzey, executive director of the Department of Employment and Workforce, said in the press release.
