A 56-year-old was killed after slamming into a tractor-trailer that was slowing for traffic in South Carolina, officials said.

The driver was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer when state troopers said it rear-ended the other truck on Monday, Aug. 1.

The 56-year-old died at the scene of the crash, and the other trucker wasn’t injured, according to S.C. Highway Patrol.

Officials in a news release said the crash happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 95 south. The crash was reported in Dillon County, near milepost 179 and close to the town of Latta.

Latta is about 60 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach.

After the crash, state troopers said southbound lanes were shut down on a stretch of I-95 and announced a detour.

The Dillon County Coroner’s Office didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Aug. 2.
