UPDATE: On Aug. 30, the Charleston Police Department arrested Richard Reed, 58, in the death of Patrick Murrah and Taylor Lee Flowers, according to a news release. Reed, who police say was driving the Chevrolet box truck that initiated the Aug. 23 multi-vehicle wreck, faces two counts of reckless vehicular manslaughter. Investigators say Reed was driving distracted and over the speed limit.

Two people died after a multiple-vehicle wreck involving a motorcycle in Charleston, South Carolina police say.

A Chevrolet box truck rear-ended a motorcycle as both vehicles traveled east on Highway 30 about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department. The collision caused both vehicles to hit a Tesla stopped in traffic, police said.

The motorcyclist and a passenger were both ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver and both people in the Tesla were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, police said.

After the wreck, police closed Highway 30 until about 9:45 p.m. Police are still investigating the incident and no charges have been filed, according to the release. The Charleston added County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the two people who died.
